Evening Life Drawing at The National Portrait Gallery

22nd November 2024. 6pm- 8pm, £20 (£16 Members/ Concessions)

Jana is hosting this session, inspired by iconic British artist, Dame Laura Knight, particularly her ground-breaking 1913 self portrait featuring nude model Ella Louise Naper.

Engage in a thoughtful discussion and exploration of how attitudes towards the naked body in art have evolved over time. By examining Knight's contributions, we will consider the cultural shifts that have influenced our perceptions of nudity, the body, and the role of the artist. Through this session, we aim to foster a deeper appreciation of how contemporary artists navigate themes of vulnerability, identity, and the human experience in their work, encouraging participants to reflect on the privilege today of being able to draw a nude model without taboo in the UK: enriching our collective understanding of nudity in art and its implications in both historical and contemporary contexts.
